My social feeds are full of kids posing for back-to-school pictures. Our district doesn't go back to school until after Labor Day, so it's still summer here. But thinking about first days in full summer heat reminds me of a time I was dead set on wearing my new "back to school" outfit on the first day. It was a lovely late 80s sweater and corduroy ensemble and wholly inappropriate for the weather that day. I don't think I've ever scratched my arms more ever in my life. Lesson learned that day: adapt to the real weather, not the weather you wish it was.
As the climate gets warmer, it seems summer heat is stretching longer and deeper into the season. July set some world records this year. It makes me wonder how your facilities are keeping up. Are your energy efficiency upgrades helping you keep pace with greater demand for cooling? Are you adopting technologies like shading and other passive systems you wouldn't have before considered? If so, I'd love to know about it. As summer sticks around longer, cranking down the thermostat is only one of many options to cope.
