The National Performance-Based Design Guide has won support from two major industry groups, reports the National Institute of Building Sciences, which issued the guide in May. ASHRAE has agreed to do the technical review of the document's mechanical section, and AIA will promote the guide to its members and bring a design perspective to the review, says NIBS. The guide is a broad-reaching performance-based tool for use by facility owners and building industry professionals, according to NIBS. It establishes performance-based requirements to be used in the programming, design, and documentation of new buildings, major and minor alterations and work in historic structures of all kinds.
