Proposed Energy Standard For Data Centers Released by ASHRAE

A new standard from ASHRAE would set minimum requirements for energy efficiency for data centers and telecommunication facilities. The draft of the proposed standard is open for public comment until March 30. The draft standard addresses design and construction, creation of a plan for operations and maintenance, and for use of on- or off-site renewable energy. The standard is designed to complement ASHRAE 90.1, "Energy Standard for Buildings Except Low-Rise Residential Buildings." The new standard is being developed in recognition of the differences between data centers and other types of commercial and institutional buildings.
