As the heat load in data center racks rises, there is growing interest in liquid cooling as a way to reduce airflow volumes while keeping equipment cool. ASHRAE's new "Liquid Cooling Guidelines for Datacom Equipment Centers" offers best practices for implementing liquid cooling systems in data centers. The guide "opens up possibilities for using the rejected heat for building heating systems," says Don Beaty, publication chair of ASHRAE Technical Committee 9.9.
