There's this word in the commercial design world which makes my skin crawl a tiny bit: resimercial. The sound is just a bit nails on chalkboard for me, personally, but I love what it means. Cozy, livable interiors in commercial settings? Yes, please. Just, everybody keep your jammie pants at your actual home, okay?
The concept seems to be that since we spend the majority of our waking hours at work, happy employees are productive employees, and the office as trophy space is oh so 80s, why not make the work environment inviting, human-centric, and full of livable personality? The most successful resimercial designs look like the living room or loft you wish you had. If you worked from home. With a couple dozen other people.
Have you recently updated the look of your office environment towards the resimercial end of the spectrum? What's your favorite design touch? Or is this all pish posh and you prefer a clear separation of work and home? I'd love to hear your thoughts.
