Chicago will expand on its existing energy benchmarking ordinance by giving it a rating system. Based on the iconic Chicago flag, the rating system will give buildings one to four stars based on their Energy Star score. The idea is to give the public an easier, more accessible way to understand how building are performing at a quick glance. I for one think this is a great idea. Anything that can make concepts like energy efficiency and benchmarking easier to understand for a general audience is all to the good, in my view.
