In the era of Big Data, advanced building technology often means IT-based systems. Certainly that's true for control systems and the growing array of offerings that gather, aggregate, or analyze energy-use, occupancy, and other forms of data. But FMs may find themselves at a double disadvantage when dealing with those IT-based systems. First, FMs aren't familiar with the underlying IP technology. Second, FMs may not have the best relationship with their peers in IT. The latter is unfortunate, since in-house IT staff is a natural resource and a powerful ally in efforts to move to the new technologies.
