Nice post. One ingrediant you left out was how the life of an HVAC unit can be extended by making the roof white. "Cool Roof" systems will extend the life of an HVAC unit by making the air reflecting off of the roof as much as 60-70 degrees cooler. It has been proven that since the units have to work less to cool the building that they operate more efficiently and for a much longer preiod. Remember, "WHITE is the new GREEN".
Thanks, Chuck. You raise a good point, one that's noted in the article, though not in my brief post. The first step in improving the performance of a building system is reducing the load. As for the longevity of HVAC units, I'd be interested to see any studies you're familiar with documenting an increase in the life of HVAC units in buildings with reflective roofs.
